Kevin Sabo is a 33 year old painter working in Richmond, Virginia. Known for his exaggerated proportions and distinct fashion choices, Sabo explores a variety of masculine and feminine tropes. His work contrasts corporate, suited men with playful, dominant female figures, using his bold and colorful compositions to creatively develop commentary on traditional gender dynamics.

I was recently looking through Sabo's work and was struck by his use of distortion and color. Every single one of his compositions successfully draws my eye around the entire canvas, finding small, powerful details on each part of the surface. I really love how his distortion creates a pattern within each piece and although they all look very different, the style and color choices make them very cohesive. One of the big takeaways I have from digging deeper into Sabo's work is how powerful distortion can be, both in style and in message. I tend to distort the words in my pieces a bit, and seeing how he is able to make these incredible patterns and images with exaggeration makes me want to lean into it even more. I also really enjoy the colors he uses and how he is clearly intentional with the colors that he's choosing, and that is something I strive for in my own work.
