Experience - Scholastic Art Exhibit

It was super interesting to see all of the work that received recognition in the Scholastic Art Competition, especially those that had won gold keys. While looking through the exhibit, I tried to take notice of what subjects were reoccurring throughout the pieces; I saw that portraits composed the majority of the work, especially in the drawing and painting categories. There were also a surprising amount of pieces with fish included, either as the subject or as a compliment to the subject; I don't believe there was a huge reason behind this, but it was interesting to see. Some of my favorite pieces were Stifling by Ashley Xiao, Growth on Decay by Harini Nagarajan, and Maggie by Grace O'Leary. These works were all more on the creepy and morbid side, but in my opinion they were some of the most interesting and dynamic pieces. I want to try and use more morbid elements in my future work, as I think that it makes a strong impact on the viewer and gets the message of the work across.
