David Lloyd Glover - Awareness

For this awareness post, I wanted to find an artist that was either inspired by music or used music and musicians as subjects in their work. David Lloyd Glover started his art career as a newspaper illustrator, and eventually moved on to advertising. When he was able to, he transitioned to making art full-time, quickly gaining recognition as a watercolor master. After gaining more of a reputation, Glover opened studios and galleries in California, making him a very popular client with movie celebrities, recording stars, and major public figures. Although he is really well known for his landscapes, what really drew me to him as an artist were his portraits of celebrities, and especially those of famous musicians. His work is absolutely packed with color, and all of his pieces are incredibly dynamic; not only are the poses of the musicians insanely action-packed, but Glover's use of color and patterns emphasizes the movement even more, something I am looking to work on in my own work.

Another thing that I really enjoy about Glover's work is the fact that some of it is done on plexiglass. I think that is an interesting medium that I would like to experiment with in the future, as I'm sure it completely changes the way the paint goes on and looks. The other thing I noticed about his work is that even the paintings of people not in dynamic poses still have a strong sense of movement and a lot of interest throughout the piece, and this is definitely something I would like to focus on bringing to my work next year.
