Alex Dodge is an American artist living and working primarily in Brooklyn, New York. He is known for his work that merges traditional painting with digital tools, often exploring how technology can reshape perception and the body. His paintings look like figures or objects wrapped in dense, textile-like patterns, demonstrating his mix of texture and material with a digitally constructed feel. His painted images are generated using a range of digital systems and traditional tools, but ultimately rendered in thick layers of oil paint using laser-cut stencils. Dodge's other works involve stamp relief block printing, screen printing, and traditional Ukiyo-e cut block printing. His most recent work, "A Way with Words," explores how language and connectivity can be impacted by the use of AI.

Dodge's work is so bold and the texture in each one looks like you could sink your hands into it. His series "A Way with Words" was especially interesting to me; each painting resembles the others in the sense that the words all look like soft pillows, but the different phrases and color pallets make them all unique and fascinating. I think Dodge's process with the combination of technology, stenciling, and painting is also very cool and an aspect that only adds to the impact of his work. The texture of his work is my favorite part, and since I have been working on creating texture with water, I really enjoyed seeing the different ways he went about creating texture of fabric, fur, and other materials.
