Abstract Process

Even though I went into it thinking this was going to be a difficult and honestly, pointless project, this might have been my favorite work I've done all year. Not necessarily because it looks the best, but I had so much fun making it and it was something I never would have done on my own. Being able to experiment and mess up on the work was great, because with realism there is so much pressure to have the piece look identical to real life and that doesn't leave much room for error. I am so happy with my final piece; I love the colors I ended up using, and I think my style comes through even though the work is nonobjective. I'm also really proud that I was able to work past my prior hesitation and that I allowed myself to go a bit crazy on the piece.

Work after first day, background, light and dark areas

Work after second day, more colors and shapes of interest, background essentially removed

Work after third day, completed; highlights in bright orange, brought more blues in, more emphasis on shapes

Final piece: Living Matter
